Grizzlies have solid showing at Ricardo Romo Classic

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – In their second meet of the season, the Butler cross country teams had a solid showing at the Ricardo Romo Classic, hosted by the University of Texas-San Antonio on Friday evening.

Making his debut on the season, Grizzly freshman Albert Meier finished second overall and was the top non-Division I runner in the men's 5K, finishing the course in a 15:31.8 time. Meier was less than three seconds back of Robert Uhr, from the University of Texas.

Freshman Nolan Hesse placed 13th overall with a time of 16:16.7, which made him the sixth-best non-DI runner at the meet. Other Butler runners competing were Max Surmeier (17:22.9), Max Ramirez (17:57.8) and Cody Frye (18:18.1). As a team, the Grizzlies finished fourth overall in the non-DI category with 79 points, finishing behind Tarleton State, Trinity College and Texas A&M International.

On the women's side, sophomore Terra Flores finished fifth for non-DI females, as she completed the 5K course in 19:35. Sophomore Hayley Ribordy (21:04.6) placed 29th overall and was the 12th non-DI runner. Butler sophomores Lindi Young (21:26.4), Janell Kidd (21:32.3) and Hayley Flanigan (22:52.4) also ran at the meet.

The Butler women finished fourth in the non-DI female category with 93 points.

Butler will travel to Emporia this Friday for the Hornet Invitational, hosted by Emporia State University. The meet will start at 5 p.m., beginning with the women's 5K. The men's 8K will follow at 5:45 p.m.
