Butler men finish fourth at Region VI meet

COLBY, Kan. – The Butler men's cross country team took second among Jayhawk West competition at the Region VI meet Saturday at Colby's Meadow Lake Golf Course.

In addition to the West runner-up finish, the Butler men finished fourth overall in the region with 133 points. Colby won the Region VI and Jayhawk West titles, winning the overall meet with 40 points.

The Grizzly men had two top-10 finishers – sophomore Kennedy Chumba and freshman Albert Meier. Chumba ran the 8K course in 25:33.40 and finished fifth, while Meier placed eighth with a time of 26:15.20. Freshman Nolan Hesse earned Region VI honorable mention honors by placing 12th with a finish time of 26:33.90.

Sophomores Cody Frye and Max Surmeier finished the course under the 30-minute mark. Frye placed 58th with a 28:37.20 time, while Surmeier crossed the finish line at 28:53.00 in 63rd place.

The Butler men, ranked 12th in the nation, will compete as a team at NJCAA National Championship meet, which will be held in Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday, Nov. 8.
