Ham, James sweep KJCCC Player of the Week honors

The Butler softball team swept the KJCCC Division I Player of the Week honors after a big weekend at the Cowtown Classic in Texas.

Maggie Ham was named pitcher of the week. She has earned the honor both weeks it has been given this season.

Ham went 2-0 with two complete game in two appearances in Fort Worth. On Friday, she beat Midland (TX) by striking out 13 and allowing just one earned run on six hits. On Saturday, facing a 9-2 North Central Texas team, she struck out another 12 batters, allowing just two runs. For the season, Ham is 4-0 with a combined 45 strikeouts in 24 innings of work 

Kate James, a freshman from Maize, Kan., is the offensive player of the week.  She assaulted opposing pitchers this weekend at the Cowtown, hitting .667 with 10 hits. Half of those hits were home runs, including a game against Trinity Valley in which she hit three consecutive home runs. She also singled in that game, going 4-4 at the plate. For the weekend, she scored nine runs and drove in nine runs as Butler went 5-0.

The 11th-ranked Grizzlies are now 9-0 on the season after two weekend tournaments in Texas, and James has hit safely in all nine games.
