Navarette homers twice as Butler blasts Barton twice

The Butler softball team dominated its home opening doubleheader, blasting Barton in a pair of games at East Park. The No. 1-ranked Grizzlies won the first game 8-0 and the second game 13-0. Both games were called after just five innings due to run rule.

Jillian Navarette had a home run in each game, while Kate James also homered in the second game.

Butler is now 18-3 on the season and 4-0 in Jayhawk West Conference play. The Grizzlies will continue their 10-game home stand with a doubleheader at East Park on Wednesday at Seward County.

 

GAME 1 – Butler 8, Barton 0

A'Liyah Rogers had three hits in the first game, driving in a pair of runs and also scoring two runs. Joselynn Dean drove in three runs in that game as well – one on an RBI groundout in the first inning and two on a single in the fourth.

Jillian Navarette's first home run of the day was a two-run shot to left in the fourth.

Sydnee Eck pitched the first game, throwing all five innings. She struck out 11 of the 17 batters she faced, allowing just one hit and earning the shutout victory as she improves to 12-3 on the season.

 

GAME 2 – Butler 13, Barton 0

Butler got another dominating pitching performance, this one from Jayde Hansen. She threw three scoreless innings, allowing two hits. She earned the win, improving to 6-0 on the year. Abbie Clanton came on in relief and allowed two walks and a hit, but no runs in two innings of work.

Offensive, Butler was dominant in the first two innings. In the first innings, Joselynn Dean drove in a run with another RBI groundout. Kate James then hammered a two-run home to left and Jillian Navarrete singled to drive in the fourth run of the inning.

The Grizzlies erupted for seven runs in the second inning. The biggest hits were a two-run home run by Navarrete and a two-run single by Ashton Atwell.

Navarette drove in her fourth run of the game by drawing a bases loaded walk in the third inning.

Navarette, Kate James and Ashton Atwell were all 2-2 in the game, while Sydnee Eck was 2-3.
