The Butler softball team returned it its winning ways on Wednesday at East Park, sweeping a conference doubleheader from visiting Colby.
Butler, which was ranked seventh in the new national polls which were released on Wednesday, won the first game 13-0 and then took the second game 11-3.
The Grizzlies pounded out nine home runs in the two games, including three from Kate James and two from Monica Islava, as they each honored in both games of the doubleheader.
Sydnee Eck started both games and earned the win each time, improving her record to 17-4 on the season.
With the wins, Butler is now 23-6 overall and continues to place a stranglehold on the Jayhawk West Conference with a 9-1 record, remaining two games ahead of second-place Seward with six games to play.
Butler will now make the return trip to Colby on Friday for another conference doubleheader and then stay there to play three games Saturday and two on Sunday against teams from Colorado and Nebraska in the Colby Invitational.
GAME 1 - No. 7 Butler 13, Colby 0
Butler pitcher Sydnee Eck dominated Colby's lineup, retiring all 12 hitters she faced in the first four innings, including nine strikeouts. Jayde Hansen pitched a scoreless top of the fifth, allowing only an infield single as the only hit of the game.
Meanwhile, Butler had just three runs through the first three innings against Colby starter Natalie Elmgreen. Those runs were produced by Kate James, who had an RBI single in the first inning and a two-run home run to center in the third inning.
Butler then erupted to score 10 runs in the fourth inning. Sydnee Eck hit a grand slam and Monica Islava and Joselyn Dean both hit two-run homers. The other two runs were driven in by Alyson Bressie, who had two hits in the same inning as Butler batted around.
GAME 2 - No. 7 Butler 11, Colby 3
Sydnee Eck was once again since dominant through the first three innings with the only baserunner reaching on an error. Abbie Clanton finished the game in the circle, allowing three runs in the final two innings.
Kate James hit two home runs in this game, while Monica Islava, Ashton Atwell and Jillian Navarrete also homered for Butler.
