Softball ranked seventh in latest NJCAA poll

Losing three of four games this past week knocked Butler softball out of the top spot in the NJCAA Division I poll, but the Grizzlies still remained in the top 10 in this week's rankings, which was released Wednesday.

The Grizzlies (21-6 overall, 7-1 conference) moved down to seventh, while the previous six teams all moved up on spot. Indian River (Fla.), who had been ranked behind Butler for three straight weeks, took over the No. 1 spot. Arizona Western, Tallahasse (Fla.), Southern Idaho, Chattanooga State (Tenn.) and McLennan (Texas) hold down the 2-6 spots.

Butler had a 15-game winning streak snapped against Seward County last Wednesday, as the Grizzlies split the series at home. The Grizzlies swept a home doubleheader Saturday against conference foe Garden City, before dropping two games to Crowder (Mo.).

The Grizzlies remain the only KJCCC team to be ranked in the poll for the third straight week. Butler hosts Colby for a doubleheader today at 3 p.m., then make a return trip to face the Trojans beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday.

Butler will also play in the two-day Colby Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. The Grizzlies face Western Nebraska, Lamar (Colo.) and Otero (Colo.) on Saturday, then battle McCook (Neb.) and Trinidad State (Colo.) on Sunday.
