Softball extends win streak with sweep at MCC-Maple Woods

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Butler softball team extended its winning streak to nine games with a pair of road wins over MCC-Maple Woods on Saturday.

Butler pounded the Monarchs in the opener, winning 10-2 in five innings. In Game 2, the Grizzlies earned the doubleheader sweep with a 2-0 victory.

Butler (13-10 overall, 4-2 Jayhawk West) plays 10 games over the next seven days, beginning with a 4 p.m. home doubleheader against Southeast Nebraska on Monday. The Grizzlies then travel to Dodge City on Tuesday and Barton on Thursday for a pair of road doubleheaders before returning home to host four games in the BUCO Bash this weekend.

Game 1 – Butler 10, MCC-Maple Woods 2 (5 innings)

Butler scored 10 runs on 10 hits – including a six-run fourth inning to take Saturday's opener.

Aujanae McCoy was a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate with two stolen bases, a run scored and one RBI, while Haylee Lorenz went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Gracie Bogle went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.

Freshman righthander Jenny Hittinger earned the win, allowing just two runs – both unearned – on three hits while striking out six in five innings.

Game 2 – Butler 2, MCC-Maple Woods 0

Butler needed back-to-back RBI singles from Megan Wurts and Morgan Heckart in the third inning for the only runs in the contest.

The Grizzlies managed just five hits off Maple Woods starter Jordyn Tieman, but the two-run edge was enough as the Monarchs failed to score.

Freshman pitcher Kaelah McMullin received the win, pitching a complete-game four-hit shutout while striking out five batters.
