Region VI D-I Softball Tournament moved to May 5-7

Rain in this weekend's weather forecast has postponed the 2017 Region VI Division I Softball Championship, which was originally scheduled to begin on April 28. The tournament has been moved to May 5-7.

As the top seed and Jayhawk West champion, Butler will host the tournament at East Park in El Dorado. Single-day tickets for the seven-team, double-elimination tournament are $10.

The opening round is now scheduled to begin on Friday, May 5 at 1:00 p.m., with fourth-seeded Colby to face No. 5 Dodge City. At 3:00 p.m., third-seeded Seward County will play fourth-seeded Garden City, then No. 2 Barton takes on No. 7 Pratt at 5:00 p.m.

With a first-round bye, Butler (48-0 overall, 24-0 conference) will face the Colby-Dodge City winner on Saturday, May 6 at 11:00 a.m.

The Region VI championship game is slated for Sunday, May 7 at 2:00 p.m. If needed, a second championship game will follow at 4:00 p.m. A full updated schedule with dates and times can be found below.

The Region VI winner will move on to play the Region IX champion in a best-of-three series for the NJCAA District E Championship on May 10-11, which will be hosted by the Region IX champion. The winner of that series will then advance to the NJCAA Division I Softball Championship in St. George, Utah, which runs May 17-20.
