De Luca-Paape and Wheeler steal the show in Monday's double header sweep of the Cardinals

The Grizzlies won their tenth and eleventh straight games with a sweep against Labette on Monday, sweeping the Cardinals with a 9-1 victory in game one before winning game two, 10-1 in the first time the Grizzlies have played the Cardinals at East Park since 2012.

Game One

Gianna De Luca-Paape was the star of the game, hitting two home runs and also knocking in the walk off run as the Grizzlies run ruled the Cardinals in six innings in game one. De Luca-Paape went three for three with one walk and three RBIs in the victory as the Grizzlies scored nine runs on 10 hits.

Emma Koeneke earned the win, improving her record to 11-1 on the year. She pitched four innings, allowing only one run on two hits, striking out six.

The most sensational play of the game came in the first inning when the Grizzlies converted a triple play to get out of a jam, as second baseman Emily Adler caught a line drive and threw to shortstop Madi Young who finished the play by throwing to first baseman Reese Briggs to complete the 4-6-3 triple play.

Game Two

It was the Mariah Wheeler show in game two, as the sophomore from Derby hit two home runs, and batted in seven runs, blowing the game open with a three run shot in the first inning. Madi Young hit the other bomb in the game as the Grizzlies cruised to the victory, finishing with 10 runs on 11 hits.

Allyson Montgomery improved to 11-0 on the year, giving up only one run on two hits in four innings of work, striking out six batters in the victory.

The Grizzlies have won 11 straight games, and improve their record to 21-1 on the year and 11-1 in conference play. They will look to keep the momentum going as they head to Liberal for a doubleheader against the Seward Saints on Wednesday.
