Grizzlies sweep Mavericks in run-rule fashion

The Butler Grizzlies softball team continued their dominant ways with a quick doubleheader sweep against Northwest Tech at East Park in El Dorado on Thursday, winning game one 18-1 before an 11-1 victory on game two.

Game One

The Grizzlies gave up a home run in the first inning but promptly responded with seven runs of their own in their half of the first inning, never relinquishing the lead before cruising to the victory, scoring 18 runs. Ari Cordova hit a home run, finishing with six RBIs and Madi Young hit two triples as Butler's offense cruised.

Emma Koeneke found her 16th win of the season, going three innings, allowing only the one run and three hits, striking out six batters in the win.

Game Two

Allyson Montgomery struck out seven in her start, as she continued her unbeaten start to the season, improving to 15-0 on the year, allowing just one hit and zero runs in three innings of play.

Gentry Shepherd hit the only home run of the game, a solo home run in the third inning. The Grizzlies scored in all four of their innings. Cordova, Shepherd, and Adler all found multiple RBIs in game two.

The Grizzlies improve to 32-2 on the year with the sweep, and 20-2 in conference play, extending their winning streak to seven games and their record at East Park to 15-1. They'll head on the road next week, traveling to Great Bend for a doubleheader against Barton on Wednesday.
