Butler powers past Dodge completing season sweep

The Butler Grizzlies extended their winning streak to 15 games with a doubleheader sweep over Dodge City on Friday, putting them within two games of winning their 11th consecutive Jayhawk Conference title. The Grizzlies defeated the Conquistadors 11-3 in the first game before finishing the sweep with a narrow 7-3 victory in game two.

Game 1

A five run second inning secured the win powered by a Gianna De Luca Paape two run home run. Alex Olson was the only other Grizzly who finished with multiple RBIs, earning three hits in four trips to the plate as Butler scored 11 runs on 10 hits.

Allyson Montgomery picked up her 18th win of the season, this time in relief of Emma Koeneke. The freshman went two and two thirds innings, pitching a shutout and not giving up any hits. Koeneke, Montgomery, and LeGrand combined for seven strikeouts.

Game 2

A four run fourth inning was the difference in a close game as the Grizzlies secured a sweep in game two. Madi Young and Emily Adler provided the power, both hitting home runs. Young provided three RBIs while Adler put in two. Seven runs on nine hits was enough to secure the victory.

It was Emma Koeneke who got the win this time, again in relief, as she improved her record to 19-1 with a two inning appearance, allowing only one hit and no runs. Three Grizzly pitchers combined for nine strikeouts and only one walk in the victory.
