Allyson Montgomery Shuts Down Cougs in Game One

The Butler Grizzlies moved to within two wins from repeating as Region VI champions, blitzing the Barton Cougars with a 10-0 victory in the first game of the day at Legends Park in Dodge City, Kansas on day two of the Region VI Tournament.

The Grizzlies scored five runs in the second to open the floodgates, all with two outs. Two errors that could've ended the inning gave Butler the opportunity, and the Grizzlies delivered. Paige Paxton delivered an RBI single to put the Grizzlies up by two and Madi Young came through one batter later with a two RBI double to open the floodgates. Butler scored five in the second and five in the third to force the run rule. Alex Olson hit her 11th home run on the year with a bomb to right field to remove all doubt, as the Grizzlies knocked in 10 runs on nine hits.

Allyson Montgomery was sensational on the rubber, as usual. The freshman notched her 20th consecutive victory with a four inning clinic, allowing no runs and no hits, striking out six batters. The Cougars did not earn a hit until the fifth inning, but Kendal LeGrand came in and preserved the shutout.

The Grizzlies improved to 44-2 on the year with the victory, and they'll play their second game of the day at 4:00 with a trip to the tournament final on the line tomorrow against the Seward County Saints, the sixth seed in the tournament.
