Grizzlies eliminated in loss to No. 3 Wallace State

The Butler Grizzlies season came to an end in Yuma with an 8-1 loss to the Wallace State Lions in the loser's bracket of the NJCAA tournament on Wednesday.

The Grizzlies season will end at 48-4 as it is the first time this season that the Grizzlies have lost two consecutive games.

Ari Cordova was the lone bright spot of the game for the Grizzlies, batting in the only run of the game. She had a great tournament, earning five hits and three RBIs, and a home run through two games in Yuma. But Butler ran into a buzzsaw in Wallace's Leigha Kirby, the pitcher who leads the nation in ERA this season, and managed just one run on five hits.

Allyson Montgomery's incredible undefeated season came to an end with the loss, the first time she has taken a loss this season. She ends her incredible freshman season with a record of 22-1 with a 1.81 ERA, allowing two runs on five hits in the game.

The loss marks the end of Madi Young's legendary Butler career. The third year sophomore ends her season first in the nation in doubles, third in batting average, fourth in slugging percentage, and third in triples. It will also be the last game for sophomores Cordova,  Emily and Sydney Adler, Gentry Shepherd, Alex Olson, Haley Garnett, Gianna De Luca-Paape, and Mariah Wheeler. The nine sophomores took two trips to the national tournament and won the league and region titles each year of their career.
