Butler women fall to Mineral Area CC, 66-61

CONCORDIA, Kan. - The Butler women started hot, but cold shooting later doomed the Grizzlies in a 66-61 loss to Mineral Area Community College on Sunday at the Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Cloud County.

Butler dominated the first nine minutes of the contest, jumping to an 18-2 lead against Mineral Area College from Missouri, but the Grizzlies lost that momentum and the lead by halftime, trailing 35-32 at the break.

Jamillah Bonner again led Butler in scoring (11 points) and rebounds (eight) while Imari Lyons scored 10 points. Other scorers were Kiara O'Neal with nine, Tonya Elliott-Salas with six, Takoya Thompson, Destiny Whitehead and Mia Wesley each with five points, Asia Watson and April Miller both had four points apiece, and Tysia Manuel had two points.

The loss dropped Butler to 8-3 on the season. The Grizzlies are next in action on Tuesday, Nov. 29 as they play host to the Southwestern Iowa Community College Spartans in the Power Plant. Tip time is slated for 5:30pm.
