Women pull away from Southwestern (Iowa) in 65-44 win

EL DORADO, KAN. – The Butler women's basketball team put in a workman-like effort against Southwestern Community College (Iowa) on Tuesday at the Power Plant, pulling away in the second half for  65-44 win.<br><br>

 "We had several people step up and do some really nice things tonight," head coach Mike Helmer said. "Like we have talked about all season, this is a process and we are striving for daily improvement." <br><br>

The Grizzlies led at the halftime by a count of 36-24. From there, Butler steadily built the lead by outscoring the visiting Spartans by nine in the second half. The Grizzlies out rebounded the visitors 46-36. <br><br>

 Butler was led in scoring by a three players as Jamillah Bonner, Imari Lyons and Christy Couey each had 11 points.  Sophomore April Miller chipped in eight, while Takoya Thompson, Tysia Manuel, Asia Watson, Kiara O'Neal and Tonya Elliott-Salas each had four points. Rounding out the scoring was Mia Wesley and Jordyn Tolefree who each had two points. <br><br>

The win improved the Grizzlies season record to 9-3 with two games remaining before the semester's end. The Grizzlies end the non conference portion of their schedule this weekend with another trip to Council Bluffs, Iowa to face Neosho County at 5 p.m. on Friday and Northeast Nebraska at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
