The Butler women's basketball team moved past Colby in the conference standings after defeating the Trojans by a 68-62 score on Saturday night at the Power Plant, sweeping the season series.
Butler is 4-8 in the Jayhawk West standings after the win, now a half-game ahead of Colby (4-9). The Grizzlies currently sit in sixth place with four games left to play and are two games behind fifth-place Barton (6-7).
Butler raced to a big advntage early in the game, leading 22-8 after a basket by Jamillah Bonner with 6:19 left in the first half. Colby would come racing back, however, outscoring the Grizzlies 15-4 over the rest of the half and cutting Butler's lead to just three at the half, 26-23.
In the second half, Colby continued to surge and eventually took a 46-44 lead after a basket by Marie McAbee with 9:43 to play. Butler would later use a 14-2 run keyed by eight points from Samantha Satterlee to go ahead 66-54 with 1:21 to go, effectively sealing the win.
Jamillah Bonner led Butler with 18 points, while Samantha Satterlee had 14 and April Miller added 11 and had a team-high eight rebounds. Brooke Bursiek scored 18 points to lead Colby in scoring while Marie McAbee scored 16 points.
Butler is 15-11 overall. The Grizzlies now go for another season sweep when they travel to Pratt on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. tipoff. Butler beat the Beavers, 62-56, at the Power Plant on Jan. 21.
