Butler stays undefeated with another lopsided victory

The Butler women are still undefeated on the season after another lopsided victory, this time beating previously undefeated Redlands (Okla.) by a 72-48 score at home on Thursday night.

The Grizzlies trailed very early by a 2-1 score but went on an 11-0 run at that point to take a 12-2 lead after a jumper by Shayla Williams with 15:01 left in the first half. Butler quickly pushed the lead to 18 when a layup by Jamillah Bonner made the score 27-9 with 7:54 left in the period.

Ashlee Ivy's layup with fives second to play in the first half gave the Grizzlies a 40-16 lead at halftime. The Lady Grizzlies held Redlands to just 20 percent shooting (6-of-34).

After a Redlands field goal to open the half, Butler made a quick 8-0 run to go up by 30. Katie Anderson would score consecutive baskets, then a Shayla Williams field goal made it a 48-18 game with 16:58 left in the game. The 30-point margin would be the Grizzlies' largest lead of the game.

Jamillah Bonner again led Butler in scoring with 18 points, with 15 coming in the first half. Bonner also had seven rebounds and four steals in the win. Freshman Katie Anderson also scored 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Grizzlies, while Shayla Williams chipped in 10 points and five assists.

Butler is now 6-0 on the season and has won five of the six games by at least 20 points, including three wins by 50 points or more. Butler will face its stiffest challenge of the season so far when they travel to Cowley on Saturday. The Grizzlies will be going for the season sweep after beating the Tigers 71-64 in El Dorado earlier in the month.
