Butler women rout Labette in Region VI opener

EL DORADO, Kan. – The Butler women have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Region VI Tournament for the third consecutive year after lambasting Labette 84-42 in first round playoff action at the Power Plant on Saturday.

With the win, the Grizzlies (25-6 overall) will play at Independence. The Pirates (17-14) defeated Barton 69-59 on Saturday in their first-round game. The time has yet to be announced. Butler has fallen in the quarterfinals in each of the past two seasons, to Hutchinson in 2011 and to Garden City in 2012.

Butler had no troubles with Labette as the Grizzlies cruised to a 20-5 lead over the Cardinals in the first 10 minutes of the contest and led 37-15 at halftime. The lead continued to grow in the second half.

Butler had four players score in double figures and were led in scoring by sophomore Jamillah Bonner, who finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. It was Bonner's 10th double-double on the season. For the second consecutive game, Ashlee Ivy had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Samantha Satterlee added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Katie Andersen scored 12.

The 25 wins are the most since the 2001-2002 team that went 27-6.
