Butler head women's coach Mike Helmer picked up his 100th collegiate victory Wednesday as the Grizzlies beat undefeated Pratt 72-53 at the Power Plant.
The Grizzlies (8-1) were led in scoring by Ashley Gibson, who finished with 16 points, hitting 7-of-7 from the field. Te'era Williams, Teanna Reid and Kynadi Johnson added 12 points each. Ashley Ivy finished just short of a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.
Butler never trailed in the contest, as the Grizzlies opened the game with a 12-0 run, with Gibson and Te'era Williams scoring four points each during the run.
Pratt (9-1) would close within six points with 9:24 left in the first half, trailing Butler 21-15. From that point, Butler would go on a 16-4 run to end the half, with Kynadi Johnson hitting four field goals.
The Grizzlies made a 20-4 run early in the second half, which led to Butler's biggest lead of the game, 57-25, at the 10:20 mark.
With the win, Coach Helmer improves his record at Butler to 100-68 overall. Helmer also remained undefeated against Pratt, as the Grizzlies are 11-0 against the Beavers under his tenure.
Butler next plays Crowder (Mo.) at home this Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
