Butler cruises to 84-54 home win over Crowder

The Butler women picked up its seventh consecutive victory Saturday with a dominating 84-54 win over Crowder (Mo.) College.

Ashlee Ivy led the Grizzlies (9-1 overall) with 18 points, while Te'era Williams finished with 17 points and nine rebounds – just missing a double-double. Ashley Gibson scored 14 and Alli Heimerman added 10 points in the win.

Butler dominated Crowder on the boards, 38-21, including 15 offensive rebounds. The Grizzlies also frustrated the Roughriders on defense as they forced 24 turnovers and scored 32 points off the turnovers.

The Grizzlies never trailed in the contest, opening the game with a 6-0 run with baskets from Te'era Williams, Ashlee Ivy and Kynadi Johnson. Crowder tied the game with consecutive three-pointers, but the Grizzlies would go right back in the lead on an Ashley Gibson trey.

Leading 21-17 with 9:07 left in the first half, Butler turned up the defense and pulled away in the contest with a 13-1 run, beginning with a three-pointer from Alli Heimerman. From the 9:07 mark, Crowder scored eight points – all on free throws – while the Grizzlies built a 47-26 halftime lead.

In the first half, Butler shot 50 percent (17-of-34) from the field, while holding Crowder to just 28.6 percent (6-of-21).

The Grizzlies came out hot in the second half, opening with a 10-2 run to take a 54-26 lead. Crowder failed to hit a field goal until the 17:16 mark of the second half, going nearly 12 minutes in the game without a basket.

Butler led by as many as 35 points in the second half, making a 9-0 midway through the half. Up 68-42, Teanna Reid and Shelbe VandeBerghe hit consecutive baskets, Heimerman added a three-pointer and Ashlee Ivy finished the run with a fast break lay-up.

Currently in the middle of a six-game homestand, Butler will next host Garden City at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grizzlies will also face Tabor JV on Dec. 2 and Barton on Dec. 4.
