Butler women finish semester with 97-66 home win

The Butler women finished the first semester with another lopsided non-conference victory, handling visiting Seminole State (Okla.) by a 97-66 score at the Power Plant on Saturday.

With 12 consecutive wins - the longest winning streak under head coach Mike Helmer - Butler improves to 14-1 on the season. It is the second-best record at the holiday break in program history, second only to the 2002 team that opened the season with 20 consecutive victories. Butler, ranked eighth in this week's NJCAA Division I poll, now has nine wins by 20 points or more on the season and 12 wins with a margin of 18 or more points.

Butler's 14th win was never in doubt, as the Grizzlies scored the first eight points of the game and would lead 17-5 less than five minutes into the contest. Seminole would get as close as eight points on a basket with 11:18 to play in the half, but the Grizzlies used a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to go up by 18.

The Grizzlies would build the lead to as many as 29 in the first half and led 51-25 at the break.

Butler continued to pull away in the second half, and after a layup in the paint from Kynadi Johnson, the Grizzlies had their biggest lead of the game at 77-35 with 10:42 to play.

Teanna Reid led Butler in scoring with 24 points, while Te'era Williams scored 22 points and had a team-high 13 rebounds. It is her seventh double-double of the season and her second straight. Alli Heimerman had a career-best 13 points in the win while Katie Andersen was also in double digits with 10 points.

Butler will now be off for nearly three weeks before traveling to play at Crowder (Mo.) College on Jan. 2. Butler will not be home again until a Jan. 6 game against Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa.
