Williams has big night as Butler crushes Coffeyville, 94-49

The Butler women remained undefeated in conference play, crushing a Coffeyville team that came into the game tied for second place. The Grizzlies led by 32 at the half and cruised to a 94-49 win over the Red Ravens at the Power Plant.

With the win, the seventh-ranked Grizzlies improved to 25-1 on the season and are now 8-0 in the Jayhawk East Conference standings. Butler is two games ahead of second-place Cowley and now three games ahead of third-place Coffeyville with four games left in conference play. The Grizzlies will have a chance to put secure the conference title on Wednesday with a road game at Cowley.

On Monday against Coffeyville, the Grizzlies scored first before the Red Ravens tied the game. Butler would then go on a 15-2 run to take control of the contest.  A basket by Teanna Reid put Butler up by 20 for the first time at 31-10 with nine minutes to go in the half.

The lead reached 30 points after Katie Andersen made her second straight long-range shot, making it at 43-12 lead with 4:20 to go in the half. Butler went into halftime up 47-15.  It marks the seventh time in eight conference games that the Grizzlies have been up by 21 or more at intermission.

In the second half, Te'era Williams took over as the Grizzlies stretched the lead to as many as 49 points. Williams would score seven straight points during one stretch in the second half and with 12 minutes to go in the game, had outscored Coffeyville by herself as she had 27 points and the Grizzlies led 72-26.

Williams finished with 31 points and 16 rebounds.  It is her 12th double-double of the season. It also ranks as her third-best offensive performance of the season, behind 34 points scored against Cloud County and 33 against Iowa Western in consecutive nights in November.

In addition to the big night from Williams, the Grizzlies also had Teanna Reid (15 points) and Ashley Gibson (14 points) in double figures in scoring, just missing a double-double herself with nine points.
