Butler finishes undefeated run through conference play

CHANUTE, Kan. – The Butler women have completed an undefeated run through conference play, winning on the road at Neosho County on Saturday by a 100-48 score in the final game of the regular season.

The Grizzlies finish Jayhawk Conference play as the league champions with a perfect 12-0 record and an overall record of 29-1. Butler will now prepare for the Region VI playoffs. Butler will be the top seed out of the East, and will open the playoffs with a first-round home game, taking on Colby at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 1.

There was little drama in Butler's final game of the regular season. Butler scored the first four points and led 14-4 early on. A 3-pointer by Neosho cut the gap to 14-7 and the Grizzlies responded with a 13-0 run to push the lead to 20 points on a basket by Ashley Gibson with 9:50 to play in the first half.

The Grizzlies would push the lead to 30 points on a fast-break layup by Shayla Williams with 3:23 left in the half. At the break, Butler led 50-19.

Butler started the second half on a 15-3 run and would eventually build their lead to as many as 55 points. The 100th and final point of the game for the Grizzlies came on a free throw by Shelbe VanDeBerghe with 54 seconds to play.

Teanna Reid led Butler in scoring with 23 points. She was one of five Grizzlies in double figures. Ashley Gibson had 15 points, Te'era Williams scored 14, Shayla Williams had 12 and Elayna Spilker scored 11.
