For the third consecutive week, the Butler women's basketball team holds steady at sixth in this week's NJCAA Division I Coaches' Poll, which was released Wednesday.
Butler (29-1 overall, 12-0 Jayhawk East) has won a school-record 27 consecutive games and finished undefeated in conference play following a 100-48 road win at Neosho County on Saturday. With 29 victories, the Grizzlies currently have the most wins among Division I programs.
The Grizzlies are one of three KJCCC teams featured in this week's poll. Jayhawk West teams Hutchinson (27-0) and Seward County (24-5) are ranked third and 20th, respectively. Cowley (21-8) fell out of the rankings after being ranked 24th last week.
The top 10 remained unchanged from last week, as Trinity Valley (Texas) holds the top spot in the poll. For 10 straight weeks, Trinity Valley, Walters State (Tenn.) and Hutchinson have been ranked 1-2-3. Chipola (Fla.) and Central Arizona are ranked fourth and fifth, followed by Butler, Northwest Florida State, College of Southern Idaho, Salt Lake (Utah) and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.
Butler will open Region VI first-round play at home Saturday against Colby (2-27 overall, 0-13 Jayhawk West) at 2 p.m. As the Jayhawk East winner, the Grizzlies are the top seed in the tournament. With a win against Colby, Butler would advance to Wednesday's quarterfinal round at Wichita State University's Koch Arena.
