Butler women cruise past Allen 86-53; move to 2-0

IOLA, Kan. – The Butler women opened up the non-conference road portion of the 2014-15 schedule Monday night at Allen Community College with an 86-53 win.

Butler (2-0) never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 39 points in the second half. The Grizzlies took a 47-23 lead into halftime led by sophomore Ashley Gibson, who had 22 first-half points en route to her game-high 28 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Sarah Parker finished with a career-high 17 points in the road win.

Also scoring for the Grizzlies were Jurnee Reid and Kynadi Johnson who each had nine points, Katie Palmer had seven points, freshman Millie Shade had five, Kori Kamm had four, Elayna Spilker had three, Amari Dennis and Nia Roberts each had two points.

Butler shot 46.5 percent (33-of-71) from the field and 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from long range while Allen was held to 34.7 percent (17-of-49) from the field.

Gibson who connected on 12-of-14 shots from the field set another career high in points. Gibson through two games is averaging 26.5 points and 6 rebounds per contest while shooting 77 percent (20-of-26) from the field on the season.

The nationally No. 9 ranked Grizzlies head back on the road on Wednesday for a tilt with Redlands Community College (Okla.). Tip time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
