The Butler women used a stifling defense as they returned to their winning ways with a 61-37 home victory over Barton on Saturday afternoon at the Power Plant.

The 37 points Barton scored are tied for fourth-fewest points in a game in the program's history, tying 37-point outputs in 1978 and again in 1979.

Butler allowed just 12 points to Barton in the first half, rolling up a 28-12 lead at the intermission. Barton was held scoreless for more than five minutes on two different occasions in the half.

Meanwhile Katie Palmer was on fire for the Grizzlies, scoring 10 of her 15 points in the half, including seven points in a row on three consecutive shots midway through the period.

In the second half, Ashley Gibson took over offensively. She would score 13 of her game-high 21 points in the period, going 9-11 at the free throw line.

The Grizzlies (12-4 overall, 2-1 in the Jayhawk West) will take a long road trip to Colby on Wednesday to take on the Trojans, who were 9-7 overall and tied with Butler for second in conference play at 2-1 before a road game at Garden City on Saturday night.
