Butler women see winning streak end at hands of No. 6 Seward

EL DORADO, Kan. – The Butler women struggled offensively and couldn't keep pace with No. 6 Seward in a 61-48 loss on Saturday, snapping a 33-game home winning streak at the Power Plant.

Butler (15-5 overall) is in third place in the Jayhawk West standings at 5-2, while Seward (6-0) remains a half-game behind #1 Hutchinson (7-0) in second place.

Butler scored first on a 3-pointer by Jurnee Reid to open the game but the Saints answered with an 11-0 run. Butler would get within seven when Elayna Spilker scored on a reverse layup with four minutes left in the half to make it 22-15, but Seward would go on a 12-2 run this time to lead 34-17. The Grizzlies got the final three points of the half and trailed 34-20 at the break.

Reid started the second half like she did the first, hitting a 3-pointer as Butler got within 11 points at 34-23. Seward, however, quickly pushed the lead to 18 after a 3-pointer made it 44-26 with 15 minutes to go.

Butler would once again get within 11 after a basket by Millie Shade, but got no closer down the stretch. Seward would lead by as many as 21.

Jurnee Reid led Butler with 13 points, while Brayden Byrd, Sarah Parker and Ashley Gibson had seven apiece.

The Grizzlies now go on the road for a pair of games, as they will play at Dodge City on Wednesday and at Garden City on Saturday.
