Butler sophomores Ashley Gibson, Kynadi Johnson and Katie Palmer were recently named to the 2014-15 KJCCC Women's All-Jayhawk West team, as voted on by the coaches.
Gibson was named to the first team, while Palmer was a second-team selection and Johnson earned honorable mention honors.
Gibson, who is from Edmond, Okla., led the Grizzlies in points (19.6) and steals (2.6) per game, as well as field goal percentage (57.9%). Gibson, who started in 30 games, finished third in rebounds (5.4). Gibson scored 30 points or more three times this season and set a career-high with 39 points in her final game as a Grizzly. She also had two double-doubles in consecutive games on Nov. 15 and Nov. 18. Gibson finishes her Butler career with 1,064 points, placing her third on the women's all-time scoring leader list behind Jamilliah Bonner (1,081 points) and Lakeisha Levi (1,071). She was an All-Jayhawk East second-team selection last season.
Palmer, from Wichita, led Butler in assists per game (2.5), second in steals (1.8) and was third on the team in points (10.5). Palmer had three games scoring 20 or more points, including a career-high 24 points in a Nov. 11 home win over Neosho County. Palmer, a transfer from Missouri State, started all 31 games this season for the Grizzlies.
Johnson, from Dallas, Texas, led the team in rebounding (5.8) and finished second in scoring (11.0). The sophomore scored 20 or more points in a game four times, reaching a career-high 25 points in her final home regular-season game against Dodge City on Feb. 25. Johnson also led the Grizzlies with three double-doubles on the season.
As two-year players, Gibson and Johnson finish out their Butler careers with a 58-10 overall record, a 2014 Jayhawk East Conference Championship and helping the Grizzlies to its first-ever NJCAA National Tournament Appearance in the program's history.
Butler finished the season at 24-7 overall with a third-place finish in the Jayhawk West, marking the third straight season of reaching 20 or more wins. The Grizzlies have won 20 or more games in four of the last five seasons under head coach Mike Helmer.
