Butler sophomore Ashley Gibson was named to the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball All-American team on Tuesday, becoming the second Grizzly in the program's history to earn the honor.

Gibson, who received honorable mention honors, averaged 19.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this past season while leading the Grizzlies (24-7) to a second-place finish in the Jayhawk West and the Region VI quarterfinals.

As a freshman, Gibson averaged 12.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, helping the Grizzlies to a conference championship and its first-ever appearance in the NJCAA National Tournament.

Gibson finishes her Butler career with 1,064 points, third-highest in program history behind Jamillah Bonner (1,081) and Lakeisha Levi (1,071).

Gibson, a 5-10 forward from Edmond, Okla., played and started in 30 of 31 games this season while leading the Grizzlies in scoring, steals (79) and field goal percentage (57.9 percent). Gibson also recorded two double-doubles and scored in double figures in 27 of the 30 games she played in this season. She eclipsed the 30-point barrier three times, including a career-high 39-point performance in her final game as a Grizzly - making 14-of-17 shots and 9-of-14 at the foul line against Independence on March 4 in the Region VI quarterfinals.

The All-American honor this season is just one of many for Gibson, who also earned first-team Region VI and All-Conference honors. She was also named to the Region VI All-Tournament team. As a freshman, Gibson earned All-Conference second-team and All-Region VI honorable mention honors.

Gibson joins former teammate Te'era Williams as the only All-Americans in the history of Butler women's basketball. Williams, part of the 2013-14 squad that appeared in the NJCAA National Tournament, was a second-team All-American.
