Butler women ranked 15th in first NJCAA regular season poll

The Butler women's basketball team is ranked 15th in the first regular season NJCAA Division I poll of the 2015-16 season.

After receiving votes in the Oct. 27 preseeason rankings, the Grizzlies opened the season with a 10-1 record and have scored 90 points or more in their last four victories. Butler received 88 votes and is the second-highest ranked team in this week's poll that was not included in the preseason top 25.

Butler, which hosts Garden City (6-5) tonight at 5:30 p.m. to open Jayhawk Conference play, is one of three KJCCC teams in this week's poll. Hutchinson (9-0) is rated fourth, while Seward County (7-1) sits at 13th in the rankings. Another KJCCC team, Independence (8-1), is one of four teams receiving votes in the poll. State Fair, Mo. (12-1), who the Grizzlies split with in non-conference play, is ranked 14th, just eight points ahead of Butler. 

Salt Lake, Utah (10-0) was voted No. 1 in the poll, receiving all eight first-place votes and 200 total points, while Trinity Valley, Texas (7-1) is ranked second with 192 points. Gulf Coast State, Fla., Hutchinson and Southern Idaho round out the top five.
