Butler women reach 20-win plateau in home win over Coffeyville

For the fourth consecutive season, the Butler women reached the 20-win mark with a wild 65-52 victory at the Power Plant on Saturday.

Tamara Lee led all scorers with 20 points, while Nia Roberts added 14 points in the victory for Butler (20-7 overall, 10-6 conference), who have won seven of its last eight contests.

The contest featured nine lead changes and 10 ties, but Butler managed to pull away late for the victory over Coffeyville (20-8, 12-5).

Trailing 18-15 with 7:44 before halftime, Tamara Lee started a quick Butler 11-2 run with a three-pointer. Nia Roberts added two treys for the Grizzlies, who led 31-28 at halftime.

With Butler leading 42-41 late in the third quarter, the contest heated up as Coffeyville's Chanel Khammara was ejected with two technical fouls during an altercation under the Butler basket. Tamara Lee hit two foul shots on the technical, then after a layup by the Ravens' Caletria Curtis, Alecia Gulledge put Butler up by four with a three-pointer. Coffeyville answered with a Jazmine Torian trey to close out the quarter.

Leading 47-46 heading into the fourth quarter, Butler took control of the game with a 9-0 run beginning with consecutive three-pointers by Alecia Gulledge and Tamara Lee. Gulledge added a field goal and Nia Roberts made 1-of-2 foul shots with 5:12 remaining.

The Ravens managed just two treys for the quarter, going 2-for-12 from the field in the entire quarter, while the Grizzlies ended the game on a 10-3 run.

Butler benefited from getting to the foul line, where the Grizzlies hit 18-of-25 (72%), while Coffeyville made just 3-of-11 (27%).

Butler will be on the road for the next two games, beginning with a 6:00 p.m. contest Wednesday at Allen County. The Grizzlies will play at Pratt on Saturday, then finish out the regular season with a home contest against Cowley on Monday, Feb. 22.
