Strong second half proves crucial in Grizzly victory over Pratt

PRATT, Kan. - The Butler women ran its winning streak to 16 straight over Pratt, defeating the Beavers 62-59 Saturday afternoon inside the Beaver Dome.

Winners in nine of their last 10 games, the Grizzlies (22-7, 12-6) came out of the gates hitting on all cylinders and built an 11-2 lead in the early minutes of the contest before Pratt (11-17, 4-14) responded with a run of their own. From there, Butler had their hands full trailing much of the first half by as many as double digits before closing within six at halftime, 30-24.

A strong third quarter effort saw the Grizzlies double up the Beavers 20-10 and take a four point lead at the end of three quarters 44-40. The Beavers outscored the Grizzlies in the final frame by one (19-18), but it wouldn't be enough.

Freshmen Alecia Gulledge and Raven Prince paced the Butler women each finishing with a team high 11 points. They were the only two Grizzlies in double figures. Sophomore Janee Arnold finished the game with a game high nine rebounds and six steals.

The Grizzlies also had contributions in the scoring column from Kyeria Hannah with eight, Ashlyn McBride and Nakylia Carter each with seven, Janee Arnold and Imari Bell each finished with six, Tamara Lee four points, Nia Roberts and Cassie Pauls each had 1 point.

Butler concludes regular season play on Monday inside the Power Plant as they play host to the Cowley Tigers. Monday also marks Sophomore night, a night in which the Grizzlies will recognize five sophomores playing their final regular season game at home. Tip off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
