Grizzly women rout OK Wesleyan JV 106-41 in season opener

AUGUSTA, Kan. - The Butler women had no problems in their season opener, winning 106-41 over Oklahoma Wesleyan JV on Tuesday at Augusta High School's Hutter Gymnasium.

Butler (1-0) had four players score in double figures, with sophomore Kyeria Hannah finishing with a game-high 20 points, eight rebounds and five steals. Dakota Vann and Raven Prince each added 17 points, while Alecia Gulledge had 13 in the win.

The Grizzlies jumped out to a 23-9 lead after the first quarter, with Vann scoring nine points. Butler then extended the lead to 37 points by halftime, as the Grizzlies hit 67 percent (25-of-39) from the field in the first half.

Butler only outscored the visiting Eagles by six points in the third quarter, but opened the fourth quarter on a 13-0 run to pull away in the contest. The Grizzlies hit the 100-point mark on an Alecia Gulledge layup with 3:07 remaining in the game.

Butler dominated the paint with 58 points inside the lane and outrebounded Oklahoma Wesleyan 53-17 - including 24 offensive rebounds. The Grizzlies shot 53 percent (42-of-79) from the field and held the Eagles to just 30 percent (13-of-43).

The Grizzlies finished with 19 steals, with Vann leading the team with five. Butler also scored 30 points off of 26 turnovers.

Butler will next play Bethel College JV on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Circle High School gymnasium in Towanda.
