Butler women defeat Dodge City, 87-52, for fifth straight win

The Butler women rolled over Dodge City on Saturday, running their winning streak to five straight with an 87-52 home victory.

Butler scored the first six points of the game and eventually led 26-10 after the first quarter behind seven points from Raegan Sanchez.

Butler pushed the lead to 20 points for the first time on a Dakota Vann layup that made it a 35-15 game with 5:34 left in the second quarter. Butler led by as many as 22 in the first half and were up 43-23 at the break.

The Grizzlies stretched the lead to 30 points in the third quarter, going up 64-34 on a bucket in the paint by Kendriana Washington with 1:39 to play in the quarter.

Butler's biggest lead in the game was 36 points, winning by 35.

Butler's defense continued to lock in on its opponents. Butler has held four of its last five opponents to  53 points or less. The Grizzlies held Dodge City to just 32 percent shooting (18-57) from the floor. 

Offensively, Butler shot 56 percent (31 of 55) but was just 61 percent from the free throw line (20 of 33). Washington led Butler with 19 points and was one of four Grizzlies in double figures. Raven Prince scored 16, Alecia Gulledge had 14 off the bench and Raegan Sanchez had 10.

Butler improves to 8-2 on the season and is now 5-2 in Jayhawk Conference play with all five wins in its streak coming against conference opponents. Butler now prepares for a tough road stretch next week, going to No. 9 Hutchinson on Wednesday and to Cloud County on Sunday.
