Butler women win fifth straight with 55-37 victory over Indy

The Butler women continued their winning ways, rolling over Independence 55-37 on Saturday at the Power Plant for their fifth consecutive victory.

The five-game winning streak is the second this season for Butler, which also won five straight from Nov. 19 to Dec. 3.

Butler cruised against Independence from the beginning, getting a pair of 3-pointers from Dakota Vann on the way to a 9-0 lead. Butler would be up 13 points before Indy would get its first points and the Grizzlies led 24-7 after one quarter.

The Grizzlies struggled offensively in the second quarter, getting just four points of their own. That allowed Indy to cut the gap to 10 at the half at 28-18.

Butler bounced back in the second half, and after Alecia Gulledge hit a 3-pointer, the Grizzlies were back up 36-19 with 6:34 left in the third quarter.

Butler was up 44-29 going to the fourth and pushed the lead to 20 points after a Kendriana Washington basket made the score 53-33 with 2:20 to play.

Raven Prince led Butler with 13 points while Alecia Gulledge had 11 as the only Grizzlies in double figures.

Butler is now 17-5 on the season and improves to 14-5 in Jayhawk Conferece play,  alone in fourth place and just a game out of third place in the standings.
