Balanced attack leads Butler women past Dodge, 70-52

DODGE CITY, Kan. - The Butler women used a strong first half performance along with a scoring trio to defeat Dodge City 70-52 on Wednesday at the Conqs' Student Activity Center.

Kendriana Washington led the Grizzlies (18-5 overall, 15-5 conference) with 18 points on 7 of 11 shooting, while Dakota Vann and Raven Prince each scored 17 points with a double-double. Vann pulled down 13 rebounds and had four steals, while Prince had 12 boards.

Butler, winners of six straight games, pulled away from the Conquistadors midway through the opening quarter with a 16-4 run.

The Grizzlies then opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run to build a 29-11 lead on Dodge. Vann and Washington scored four points each during the run.

Raegan Sanchez drilled a three-pointer at the 8:27 mark of the third quarter to give the Grizzlies their largest lead at 63-41.

Butler dominated the paint as they outscored Dodge City, 48-20, and won the rebounding margin, 57-41. The Grizzlies pulled down 29 offensive rebounds, which led to 25 second-chance points. Butler also had 23 points off of Dodge's 28 turnovers.

The Grizzlies return home Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. contest against rival Hutchinson. The Blue Dragons, who defeated Butler 74-59 back on Dec. 7 in Hutch, are currently ranked No. 2 in the nation.
