Four sophomores from the Butler women's basketball team were named to the 2016-17 All-Jayhawk Conference team, which was released Monday.
Forward Dakota Vann received first-team honors, while forwards Raven Prince, Kyeria Hannah and guard Kendriana Washington were placed on the second team. Butler was one of three teams to place four players on the All-KJCCC team, tying co-conference champions Seward County and Hutchinson.
Vann, who hails from Oklahoma City, led the Grizzlies in scoring (14.3 ppg), steals (2.5) and blocks (1.2). The 6-0 forward also averaged 6.8 rebounds per game, which was second on the team. Vann shot 45.4 percent (158 of 348) from the field, 42.7 (35 of 82) from three-point range and hit 79 percent (64 of 81) from the foul line. She scored a career-high 23 points twice (vs. Seward County, Nov. 16; at Cloud County, Dec. 11) and had six double-doubles during the season.
As the only player to start all 31 games this season, Prince led Butler in rebounds (7.0 rpg) and was third on the team in scoring (10.0 ppg). Also from Oklahoma City, Prince shot 43.3 percent (106 of 245) and led the team in free throws made (97). The 6-2 forward made 63.4 percent (97 of 153) from the free-throw line. Prince scored a game-high 20 points in a 77-70 win over Coffeyville on Feb. 22 and pulled down a season-high 18 rebounds on Nov. 4 against Bethel College JV. Prince finished with five double-doubles, including her final three games of the season (vs. Colby, Feb. 27; vs. Dodge City, Mar. 2; vs. Cowley, Mar. 6).
Hannah started 30 of 31 games, averaging 9.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. The 6-1 Moore, Okla., native led the Grizzlies in field goal percentage (49.2 percent, 131 of 266). Hannah scored a game-high 20 points in the Nov. 1 season opener against Oklahoma Wesleyan JV. Last season, Hannah was an All-Jayhawk Conference honorable mention selection and participated in the NJCAA All-Star Game in Florida, making her one of the top 40 freshman players in the country.
Washington was second on the team in scoring (12.0 ppg) and averaged 5.4 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game. From the field, Washington made 45.2 percent (146 of 323) and hit 34.0 percent (18 of 53) from three-point range. The 5-11 Tulsa, Okla., guard started in 30 of 31 games this season and scored a career-high 21 points in her final game.
Butler ended the season with a 24-7 overall record and a Region VI quarterfinal appearance. The Grizzlies, who reached the 24-win plateau for the the fifth straight season, finished third in the Jayhawk Conference with a 20-6 record.
