Butler women use big run in second half to roll over Barton

The Butler women used a huge second-half run to roll to a 64-46 win over Barton on Wednesday at the Power Plant.

Butler (13-6 overall, 10-6 conference) outscored Barton 20-0 during one stretch in the second half, wiping out a 36-33 deficit into a 17-point lead.

The two teams traded leads throughout the first half. Butler had its biggest lead at 14-9 after Awreona Ransom scored with 4:21 left in the first quarter.

The Grizzlies led 17-13 after one quarter, but found themselves trailing 28-23 midway through the second quarter. Butler battled back to get within a point, as Barton (12-8, 9-7) took a 32-31 advantage at halftime.

Butler still trailed 36-33 before embarking on the game-changing run beginning with an Ericka Mattingly three-pointer with 5:24 left in the third quarter. HaLee Roland had the final basket in the run, hitting a jump shot that made it 53-36 with 9:39 remaining in the contest.

Butler built the lead to as many as 19, going up 58-39 after a Mattingly layup with 6:42 to play.

Mattingly led Butler with 19 points, while Taylor Birch had 11 points and Jalise Smallwood scored 10. Mattingly also pulled down 10 rebounds to record the double-double. Kyla Callins also had 10 rebounds for Butler.

Butler outrebounded Barton by 15 (50-35) and held the Cougars to just 24 percent shooting in the game (13-of-54).

Butler has won six of its past seven games and will take to the road on Saturday to take on Cowley at 5:30 in W.S. Scott Auditorium in Arkansas City.
