Butler breaks record for points in a quarter in 100-49 win

HESSTON, Kan. – The Butler women put up a program-record 39 points in the third quarter on their way to a 100-49 win over Hesston on Wednesday at the Yost Center.

The 39 points are two more than the previous best in a quarter by Butler, which had come in the third quarter of a game against Colby in February of last season.

Butler scored the first five points of the game and led 21-11 after one quarter. Hesston would not get within single digits the rest of the way.

An Awreona Ransom bucket with 4:30 left in the second quarter put Butler up 20 for the first time, at 37-16. Butler led 45-26 at the half.

Jalise Smallwood would hit a 3-pointer just seconds into the third quarter, setting the stage for Butler's scoring fest. Camille Downs scored nine of her 14 points in the period.

Butler led 84-39 going to the fourth quarter. The lead would go past 50 for the first time when Kyla Callins made a jump shot with 7:27 to play that made it a 92-41 game.

Lauryn Snipes and Awreona Ransom scored 16 points apiece to lead Butler offensively. Criste'On Waters and Camille Downs had 14 apiece, while Kyla Callins had 10, giving Butler five players in double figures. Callins pulled down eight rebounds, along with five assists and six rebounds, leading Butler in all three categories.

Butler remains undefeated at 4-0 on the season. The Grizzlies will be in Nebraska for two games this weekend, facing Iowa Central at 5 p.m. on Friday and the host Central Nebraska at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
