Former Grizzly Tysia Manuel returns to Butler for her first season on the women’s basketball coaching staff.

Manuel played two seasons for the Grizzlies from 2011 to 2013 under head coach Mike Helmer, where she helped Butler to an overall record of 44-21.

As a sophomore at Butler, she averaged 8.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while making 31 of 33 starts. The Grizzlies went 26-7 overall over the course of the 2012-13 campaign and advanced to the Region VI semifinals. During her freshman season, she played in 26 games while averaging 3.6 points per game.

Following Butler, Manuel transferred to Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla., where she was a spot starter over two seasons (2013-15) under head coach Misti Cussen. She saw action in all 29 games in her first season with the Golden Eagles, making 17 starts and playing 18.5 minutes per game. During her senior year, Manuel played in all 34 games and helped ORU to a third-place finish in the Summit League. In the postseason, the Golden Eagles advanced all the way to the WBI semifinals.

Manuel was a prep hoops star at Marietta High School in Marietta, Okla., under head coach Duane Shaw. Among four senior starters in 2009, Manuel started as a sophomore, helping the Indians to the Class 3A semifinals and a 26-3 record. In 2011 as a senior, Manuel averaged 11.8 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game for the Indians in her final season. She was named Tournament MVP at the Madill Winter Classic in both her junior and senior seasons. As a sophomore, Manuel won an OSSAA Class 3A State Track & Field Championship.

Manuel is a graduate of Oral Roberts University, where she majored in recreation administration. She is the daughter of Clifton and Vanessa Wright.
