The Butler soccer team has advanced to the Region VI semifinals with an 8-0 win over Northwest Technical College on Monday at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.
Butler, the tournament's top seed, will now face fourth-seeded Johnson County at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka. In the other semifinal, No. 2 seed Hutchinson (an 11-5 winner over Cloud County) will face No. 3 seed Barton County.
For the Grizzlies on Monday, Alyssa Miller recorded a hat trick with three goals, including the first two goals of the game. Megan Snyder added two goals, both coming on long-range shots from more than 30 yards away from the goal.
Butler also got a goal on a penalty kick by Aisling Dyer and a goal on a header by Abby Ponce. Laura Falkenstein was the only freshman to score on sophomore day, capping the scoring with a goal in the 85th minute.
Dyer posted a shutout through the first half. Hana Harrison played the second half in goal to complete the clean sheet.
The Butler sophomores played their final home game of the season with an 18-0 record in games played either on the campus field or the new stadium over the past two years. The sophomores also won their 40th game over the past two seasons.
The win gives Butler a 19-2 record on the season. The 19 wins is now the second most in program history, eclipsing the 18-1-1 record of the 2005 team. Only last year's team, which had a 21-4-1 record, has had more wins in a season.
