Offerman receives NJCAA All-American accolades

Butler sophomore defender Teresa Offerman was recently named to the NJCAA Division I All-American soccer team, earning honorable mention recognition.

"I am so honored to receive this award," said Offerman, who previously won KJCCC Defensive Player of the Year and was one of four Grizzlies named to the All-Conference first team. "I never expected to be named All-American."

Butler head coach Adam Hunter had recruited Offerman out of high school, as the Wichita, Kan., native was a four-year letterwinner at Bishop Carroll High School. Offerman ended up playing her freshman year at NCAA Division II Missouri Western where she started at center back. However, the program went through a coaching change at season's end and Offerman ended up transferring to Butler last spring.

"Transferring to Butler was the best decision I have ever made," Offerman said. "It opened the door to so many opportunities for me. I couldn't have done it without my teammates. I love my teammates and we have the best coaches around."

"She met her potential while she was here," said Coach Hunter. "She didn't do anything that was less than expected. She's been a quality player and fill a need for us when we lost Kelsey Garrison last year (to graduation). She had a great season."

Offerman is the fifth Grizzly player to receive NJCAA All-American honors. Toni Knabe (2004), Ashley Tatum (2004-05), Katy Rodriguez (2007) and Cindy Benitez (2009-10) have previously received All-American honors.
