Lawrence scores four goals as soccer beats Otero, 5-3

Brittney Lawrence continued her offensive assault, scoring four goals as No. 5 Butler overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat Otero (Colo.) by a 5-3 score on Friday afternoon at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.

Otero scored the first two goals in the game against a defense that had posted two straight shtutouts. The Grizzlies finally got on the board late in the first half when Lawrence blistered a shot toward goal. The Otero keeper, Kimi-Ann Kaniaupio, deflected the ball right to the waiting feet of Morgan Foster, who put the ball in the back of the net in the 37th minute.

Butler trailed 2-1 at the half, but the second half belonged to the Grizzlies. Lawrence would score three straight goals in the 53rd, 61st and 73rd minutes as Butler went ahead 4-2.

Otero finally answered the Butler barrage by scoring a goal in the 82nd minute, but moments later, Lawrence tipped a ball over the head of the charging Rattlers' keeper and into the net for the final score of the day.

For Lawrence, the four goals gives her back-to-back hat tricks as she had three goals last Sunday against Kansas City, Kansas. She now has 12 goals in her first five collegiate games.

Foster has scored a goal in three straight games, giving her three for the season.

Butler is now 4-1 on the season, still 1-0 in Jayhawk Conference play. The Grizzlies will put their three-match winning streak on the line again at 10 a.m. on Sunday against Illinois Central at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.
