Lawrence receives NJCAA Player of the Week accolades

With nine goals in two games, Butler freshman Brittney Lawrence was named the NJCAA Women's Soccer Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 2 through 8.

Lawrence scored four goals in a 5-3 win over Otero (CO) on Friday, then netted five more in a 12-0 victory against Illinois Central on Sunday. The freshman from Ajax, Canada, had an astonshing nine goals in just 11 shots (.818 shot percentage) in the two games.

Lawrence has been dominant on the pitch with three hat tricks in the last three contests and currently leads the Grizzlies in goals (14) and total points (30) in just six games.

The award marks the second time in as many weeks that a Grizzly has been named to the list. Last week, Butler goalkeeper Kelsi Langley received the NJCAA Goalie of the Week honor.

Lawrence is the sixth Grizzly to receive an NJCAA weekly honor (Katy Rodriguez, 2007; Sarah Flaherty, 2008 and 2009; Cindy Benitez, 2009).
