Butler soccer jumps two spots to sixth in latest NJCAA poll

After a comeback road victory over No. 12 Barton on Friday, the Butler women's soccer team moved up two spots to sixth in the NJCAA Top 20 Division I poll, which was released Wednesday.

With two wins this past weekend, Butler (11-2-0 overall, 6-0-0 conference) received 75 votes in this week's poll. The Grizzlies, who remain the last remaining undefeated team in the Jayhawk Conference, defeated Barton 4-2 in Great Bend and Neosho County 4-0 at home on Sunday.

This week featured a new No. 1, as Iowa Western (10-1-0) moved into the top spot for the first time this season. The Reivers, who lost a 2-1 overtime thriller to Butler back on Aug. 23 for their only loss, were previously ranked second. Navarro (Texas) moved up two spots to second, while Paradise Valley (Ariz.), who held the No. 1 spot for four straight weeks, dropped to third. Paradise Valley suffered its first loss of the season to unranked Scottsdale (Ariz.) on Saturday.

Rounding out the top five were Tyler (Texas) and Georgia Perimeter. The Grizzlies moved ahead of Laramie County (Wyo.), who fell to seventh. Other KJCCC schools featured in the national poll are Johnson County and Barton. Johnson moved up one spot from 15th to 14th, while Barton dropped eight spots to 20th after falling to Butler, who are now 3-2 overall against ranked opponents this season.

Butler will hit the road for a pair of key conference games this weekend, beginning with a 4 p.m. battle with rival Hutchinson (7-3-0 overall, 6-3-0 KJCCC) on Friday. The Blue Dragons are coming off a 3-0 loss Friday at Johnson County.

On Sunday, the Grizzlies travel to Coffeyville for a 5 p.m. contest. The Red Ravens (11-1-1, 7-1-1) have won seven of their last eight matches, with the only non-win coming in a 1-1 tie to Independence. Coffeyville's lone conference loss is a 3-1 defeat to Barton back on Sept. 8.
