Butler's Lawrence to play in U-20 World Cup qualifier

Butler soccer standout Brittney Lawrence will be taking a bit of a break from the Grizzlies, but she will not be taking a break from the game.

Instead the talented freshman will play in the final round of the World Cup Qualifying matches for the Caribbean Region. She is a part of the St. Kitts-Nevis Women U-20 squad. Lawrence and her teammates will be playing against Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba, Anguilla and Grenada. The matches are scheduled to be played Oct. 18-27 in Jamaica.

This will be the second time this year that Lawrence has been called to national team duty with the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association (SKNFA). She played with the team in July in three matches in the British Virgin Islands, scoring a goal in all three games against Antigua, Anguilla and British Virgin Islands. She had a hat trick in the final game against the host country.

"We have been very fortunate to have a line of players come through our program that have represented their countries on the international soccer scene," Butler coach Adam Hunter said. "Brittney is another, and will be pulling double duty as she plays for St. Kitts and the Grizzlies at the same time.  Although we want Brittney to appear in all of our matches here at Butler, I feel strongly about a kid honoring the call to represent their country.  Brittney is the offensive catalyst for our team and the U-20 St. Kitts team.  We look forward to watching her put a couple of goals in the back of the net later this month to help qualify St. Kitts to the U-20 FIFA World Cup."
