Butler soccer ranked No. 6 for second straight week

For the second consecutive week, the Butler women's soccer team remained ranked sixth in the NJCAA Top 20 Division I poll, which was released Wednesday.

Butler (13-2-0 overall, 8-0-0 conference) remained undefeated in conference play with two road victories over Hutchinson and Coffeyville this past weekend. The Grizzlies defeated Hutchinson 3-0 on Friday, then beat Coffeyville 7-3 on Sunday. With the two wins, Butler has matched its season-high streak of six consecutive victories.

The NJCAA Top 10 featured minimal changes, as Iowa Western (12-1-0) remained in the top spot for the second straight week. The Reivers, who lost a 2-1 overtime thriller to Butler back on Aug. 23 for their only loss, received 10 points and all five first-place votes. The only change in the poll was Darton State (Ga.) and Georgia Perimeter swapping positions in the poll. Navarro (Texas), Paradise Valley (Ariz.), Tyler (Texas) and Darton State rounded out the top five behind Iowa Western.

Other KJCCC schools featured in the national poll this week were Johnson County and Barton. Johnson remained ranked at 14th, while Barton is locked in a three-way tie at 18th.

Butler will play two games this week, as the Grizzlies host Independence (7-5-2 overall, 5-4-2 conference) this Friday at 7 p.m. On Monday, Butler will host Dodge City (7-6-0, 4-3-0) at 12 p.m. in a makeup game that was rescheduled from Sept. 15.
