No. 6 Butler shuts out Cowley for ninth straight win

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. -- The sixth-ranked Butler women's soccer team pushed its season-high winning streak to nine games with a 4-0 road shutout over Cowley on Thursday.

Butler (16-2-0 overall, 11-0-0 conference) has five shutouts in its last six games and a total of 10 shutouts on the season.

The Grizzlies scored in the 14th minute on an Yvette Aguilar header that was assisted by Alyssia Salinas. Grizzly freshman Kelly Sutton added an unassisted goal on a corner kick just before halftime to give Butler a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, freshman Korrie Raney pushed the lead to 3-0 with a goal in the 61st minute. Just over eight minutes later, freshman Madison Wedekind scored her 12th goal of the season - a short tap-in on an assist from Morgan Foster.

With the win, Butler moved into second place in the standings with 33 points - just one point behind Barton, who has completed its conference schedule. The Grizzlies still have two conference games remaining and can secure its third straight KJCCC title with a win on Sunday against Cloud County.

Butler hosts Cloud (3-12-0 overall, 0-12-0 conference) at 7 p.m. Sunday at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex. The game will be the last home regular-season contest for the Grizzlies. Butler is assured of a home first-round Region VI playoff game, which will be played on Saturday, Nov. 2.
