Eight earn All-KJCCC honors; Hunter named top coach

More than half of Butler's starting lineup earned first-team All-Jayhawk Conference honors in 2013, according to a release from the commissioner's office on Monday.

Butler grabbed six of the 13 spots available on the all-conference list with two forwards, two midfielders a defender and the goalkeeper. That was double the number of the next closest school, as Johnson County and Hutchinson had three apiece.

Butler's Adam Hunter, who led the Grizzlies to a third-straight conference championship and a second straight season undefeated in KJCCC play, was named the Coach of the Year. It is the second time he has earned the honor, previously in 2004 as head coach at Dodge City.

Morgan Foster, who leads the nation in scoring with 43 goals and 102 points, was not selected as the Offensive Player of the Year. That went to Hutchinson's Jenny Rogers, despite having 10 fewer goals and 11 fewer assists than Foster.

Still, Foster was a first-team selection at forward, as was freshman Brittney Lawrence, who ranks 16th nationally with 27 goals and 13 assists.

At midfield, Madison Wedekind and Madison Decker were both selected to the first team. Wedekind is tied for second nationally with 20 assists, just one behind the national leader. She has also added 15 goals this year. Decker has 17 assists and 10 goals for the Grizzlies.

Defender Lamya Scott, who led a stiff Butler defense that allowed only nine goals in 13 conference games, was a first-teamer.

Butler's Kelsi Langley was voted as the conference's top keeper. She posted 12 shutouts while playing all but 90 of the nearly 2,000 minutes the Grizzlies have played this year. Eight of those shutouts came in conference play.

Defenders Darci Nightingale earned second-team honors and Korrie Raney was honorable mention.

Butler is preparing for its third straight NJCAA National Tournament, the longest current national qualifying streak in the nation. The Grizzlies have also won 20 or more matches in each of the past three season, compiling 64 wins since 2011, also the most in the nation.
