Butler ties No. 4 Tyler (Texas) in final non-conference match

The Butler soccer team concluded the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 1-1 tie against No. 4 Tyler (Texas) on Sunday at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.

The Grizzlies scored first in the contest in the 35th minute when Brittney Lawrence sent a ball along the end line that was hammered into the goal by Jaclyn Means. Butler's 1-0 lead held up through halftime and well into the second half.

A foul in the 73rd minute gave Tyler a free kick and Maria Bofi made Butler pay. Her free kick from 25 yards out was just over the hands of Butler keeper Paige LaBadie and just under the crossbar to tie the game.

Tyler had a chance to win the game as a shot with two seconds left in regulation, but the ball bounced off the crossbar just before the game ended. Neither team was able to mount a serious scoring threat in either of the two overtime periods, forcing the game into a tie.

Butler is now 3-3-2 on the season, with both ties coming against Texas teams ranked in the top five nationally. Butler also tied Navarro 2-2 two weeks ago on a neutral field in Wyoming.
The tie is the first game that Tyler hasn't won this season, as the Apaches are now 6-0-1 on the year.
Butler now begins Jayhawk Conference play on Friday at Garden City and plays Saturday at Dodge City.
